Full-Stack SaaS Boilerplate

Designed and developed a production-ready SaaS boilerplate demonstrating modern full-stack architecture. Features include OAuth authentication (Google, Facebook, LinkedIn) using Clerk, real-time database with Convex, internationalisation across 7 languages with full RTL support for Arabic, GDPR-compliant data handling with self-service account deletion, and dual-provider transactional email systems. Built with Next.js 16, React 19, and TypeScript, the project showcases current development practices including WCAG accessibility compliance, cookie consent management, and PWA readiness. The codebase serves as both a portfolio piece and a foundation for rapid SaaS application development.

essensys Platform - Cloud Orchestration & Automation Suite

Lead Full-Stack Engineer for essensys's flagship cloud platform — a mission-critical SaaS product serving landlords and flexible workspace operators globally, listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM Market. Platform superseded Connect, incorporating all existing network management functionality whilst adding a comprehensive suite of new capabilities: enterprise-grade WiFi experience and intelligence engine with WPA2-Enterprise/802.1x/RADIUS authentication, real-time space utilisation analytics and DX scoring, automated network orchestration with VLAN provisioning and bandwidth shaping, Smart Access door and elevator control with group-based permissions, occupier self-service portals, telephony and voice services, real-time booking systems, payment integrations, white-label solutions, and an open REST API with third-party integrations. Led a team of 4 engineers, establishing code review standards and mentoring junior developers. Designed serverless microservices architecture using AWS Lambda and DynamoDB, implemented CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, and built responsive React/TypeScript frontends with styled-components and Material UI. Applied test-driven development practices and Agile methodologies throughout.

essensys Operate - Workspace Management Platform

Part of the team that redeveloped HubCreate (acquired by essensys in 2016) into Operate, a SaaS workspace management platform for flexible workspace and serviced office operators. Operate provided CRM and lead management, automated billing and invoicing, meeting room and desk bookings, inventory and services management, contract and occupancy management, and member self-service portals. The platform served operators across multiple countries, enabling them to manage the complete tenant lifecycle from a single interface. Developed using AngularJS and JavaScript ES6 on the frontend, with .NET, C#, and Microsoft SQL Server powering the backend services. Implemented responsive layouts with Bootstrap and CSS, ensuring consistent user experience across devices.

essensys Community - Member Engagement Portal

Developed Community, a member-facing portal connecting coworking space users with events, networking opportunities, and shared resources. Built with Angular 2+ and TypeScript on the frontend, supported by Node.js and Express backend services with MongoDB for flexible data storage. Implemented real-time data synchronisation to ensure members always see current availability and event information.

essensys Connect - IT Infrastructure & Network Management Platform

Worked on Connect (originally Jeff), a SaaS platform enabling flexible workspace operators to manage IT infrastructure, network provisioning, and occupier services across multi-tenant buildings. Led the rebrand from Jeff to Connect, re-theming the entire platform, fixing bugs across all areas, and delivering further enhancements. The platform provided centralised portfolio management, enterprise-grade WiFi authentication and onboarding, VLAN segmentation per tenant, bandwidth shaping, telephony services, and occupier self-service portals. Developed using JavaScript, jQuery, PHP with Symfony framework, and MySQL databases. Implemented SOAP integrations for legacy system connectivity and containerised services using Docker.

Responsive Emails for The National Lottery

As part of Camelot's National Lottery rebranding programme, I was the sole developer responsible for rebuilding all customer-facing email communications. This involved recoding the entire email suite to align with the new brand while ensuring robust compatibility across a very wide range of desktop, mobile, and web-based email clients, including legacy environments. All emails were built to be responsive where client support allowed, delivering an optimal experience across modern smartphones and tablets, while degrading gracefully in non-responsive clients. Images were carefully optimised to appear sharp on high-resolution displays, including Retina-class screens, while maintaining minimal file sizes to ensure fast load times and low bandwidth usage. In addition to the email builds themselves, I designed and implemented an internal email production tool for use by non-technical stakeholders. This tool enforced brand and layout consistency, validated markup, reduced the risk of rendering issues, and significantly streamlined the team's production workflow. Throughout the project, I carried out extensive cross-client and cross-platform testing, including desktop, mobile, webmail, and international providers, as well as accessibility checks (such as colour contrast and colour-blindness validation) and spam-filter testing. I regularly used Infor and Litmus to manage testing, QA, and client compatibility assurance.

jQuery TabaKordion

Designed and developed a lightweight jQuery plugin providing accessible tabs, accordions, and show/hide regions. The project began as a simple accordion for my own site, but limitations in existing solutions led me to build a unified component covering all three interaction patterns. The plugin was designed to meet the W3C WAI-ARIA 1.0 Authoring Practices by default, requires minimal semantic markup, and functions effectively even without styling. Accessibility was treated as a primary requirement throughout development.

Tariq Khan personal website 2006

This personal website was originally developed in 2006 and met my needs at the time. As my skills and experience developed over the years, the site was not updated to reflect that progress, largely due to time constraints. Eventually, it became clear that a redevelopment was necessary to better represent how I work today.
